Large mid C19th Japanese Meiji period porcelain vase and cover decorated in the Imari palette .
The ribbed tapering body of the vase profusely decorated with opposing vignettes and cartouche panels of floral and leaf designs featuring mythical phoenix birds painted in shades of iron reds , colbalt blues and with gilded highlights on a white glazed body .
The panels punctuated with circular mons with traditional motif designs. The domed cover with corresponding decoration and surmounted with a large finial , the collar of the neck of the vase decorated with alternating ribbed bars of red and blue.
A highly decorative Japanese vase of impressive scale and proportions. The vase in excellent original condition, the finial of the lid having been historically broken and repaired.
