Description

Pair of late C19th gilded and patinated brass table lamps modelled in the ‘Grand Tour’ taste in the form of ancient classical volute krater vases.
A smart pair of classical-style table lamps being copies of the iconic ancient Roman marble krater vase excavated in Lazio, Italy by the antiquarian and dealer Gavin Hamilton in 1773 , and subsequently sold to the celebrated collector Charles Townley , the original known as “The Townley Vase” is exhibited in the British Museum, London.
Crisply-cast detail throughout with a pleasing contrast to the gilded and patinated brass surfaces. The bodies cast in bas-relief depicting a Bacchanalian procession. Raised on their original aged carrara marble block bases . Have been wired and PAT tested , in working order .

Minor marks ,dings and wear to the metalwork , minor chips to edges of marble, commensurate with age and use .
