Early C19th Regency period miniature gilt-brass desk-top inkstand, modelled as a recumbent lion upon a plinth base .
The lift-off lid revealing 2 removable cylindrical inkwells and apertures for quills , the architectural plinth base with cast and engraved decoration. The recumbent lion study resonant of the Egyptian lion sculptures flanking The Capitoline Hill , Rome , Italy and of the type favoured in designs by the likes of the Regency period designer and architect Thomas Hope .
