C18th George III Chippendale period carved gilt-wood frame rococo-style wall mirror.
Rectangular gilt-wood frame with C-scroll and leaf carved decoration retaining the original gilded surface . The open-work carved sides with trailing leaf and branch details, the inner margin of carved rococo design, the large C-scroll central cartouche with a rocaille ‘icicle’ bar motif . The base with a corresponding carved C-scroll rococo and leaf design cartouche.
In excellent original condition with minor historic sympathetic restoration to small areas of gilding . Retains the original pine backboards. The clear silvered mirror-plate being a well-chosen mid C19th replacement .
A stylish and sophisticated carved gilt-wood framed eighteenth wall mirror of elegant proportions and practical scale .
*Provenance : From the collection of Anne Parsons, Countess of Rosse (nee Messel of Nymans , Sussex ) previously Armstrong-Jones and mother of Lord Snowdon . Late resident of Womersley Hall Estate, Yorkshire.
