Late C19th Chinese Qing Dynasty elm calligraphy or altar table in the C17th Ming period style.
Figured elm ‘recessed-leg’ rectangular table with carved ‘ruyi’ spandrel brackets to the friezes . Raised on round section supports, each end joined by twin ovoid stretchers. The top of cleated construction.
In excellent original condition with only minor historic water-marks to the top commensurate with age, use and purpose . Of freestanding form , being finished to both sides .
The whole with a rich patina and colour to the well-figured elm .
An exotic oriental table of practical scale and proportions being of elegant uncomplicated design for use in a reception room or perhaps as a console or hall table .
