Large scale early C19th Regency period mahogany wine-cooler of classical sarcophagus form.
Raised on an inverted plinth base with original concealed brass castors beneath. The body with panelled reserves with moulded surrounds , and having a stepped pyramidal top brass-hinged lid. The rising lid fitted with an original adjustable brass strut ‘stay’ and a further later hinged brass support. Fitted with a brass working lock and steel key. The interior retaining the original zinc or lead-lined compartments and bottle divisions, with original draining plug .
Retaining the original polished surface to the figured mahogany which has achieved a rich colour and patina. In fresh-to-market, original ‘as found’ , countryhouse condition.
