Early C20th Japanese Taisho era carved and ebonised ‘shodana’ or display cabinet on stand .
Impressively scaled and heavily carved shodana with an asymmetric arrangement and configuration of drawers , shelves and cupboards. Skilfully carved all-over with dragons , mythical beasts, birds , landscapes and flower-head details . The cabinet with a central niche and having a carved bridge feature . The top surmounted with a central carved coiled dragon, the ends of the pediment carved with mythical beasts .
Raised on a separate carved stand on shaped carved supports . The lower doors with carved bone pulls . The upper central section with a single fixed panel with openings to each side, probably originally as a hinged door and one now being deficient.
In excellent original condition with minimal wear to the ebonised surface. No breaks , damage or repairs.
A dramatic and exotic interior statement on which perhaps to display a collection of Japanese and Oriental objects.
