Late C19th Italian bronze �Grand Tour� souvenir reduction , after the antique, of Augustus Caesar �Prima Porta�
Bronze reduction of the antique marble original of the first Roman Emperor Augustus Caesar . Depicted in military dress wearing a cuirass , in a rhetorical adlocutio pose, addressing his troops. The armour with an eagle to the reverse and allegorical figures to the front, including Mars , God of War.
A well-cast bronze having a golden patina . In excellent original condition with only minor wear to the surface, raised on a circular base.
The marble original now exhibited in the Vatican Museums, Rome , Italy.
