Early C19th Regency period papier-mâché Chinoiserie tray on bespoke ‘faux bamboo’ stand .
Superbly decorated black and gold lacquered papier-mâché tray with intense fantastical Chinoiserie decoration. The figural and traditional landscape scenes painted in gilt with red highlights.
The dished rectangular tray in excellent original condition with no wear or loss to gilding . Mounted upon a well-executed carved ‘faux bamboo’ black and gilt bespoke stand to form a table of practical reception room height. The legs of slightly splayed form with a cross x-stretcher .
The tray attributed to ‘Clay of Covent Garden , London’ , any possible stamps being concealed by the fixed base .
