Description

Early C19th Regency period simulated or ‘faux’ rosewood framed bergere library armchair.
Raised on reeded forelegs fitted with large cast-brass cup castors , having a carved roundel detail to the block at top of the leg . The ‘horse-shoe’ shaped back with a carved motif to the centre of the top rail, the frame and front rail with ‘channeled’ detail.
The splayed rear supports with square shaped box-type brass castors . The original bergere cane panels to the back and sides in good condition. The bergere cane of the seat having been removed and replaced with a later wooden panel .
The painted and grained simulated rosewood in good worn condition commensurate with age ,use and purpose.
The seat with a bespoke sage-green leather upholstered and buttoned squab cushion of later manufacture .
*The design of this form of armchair is inspired by the Ancient Roman curule chair , models of a similar design were produced by the esteemed cabinet-making firm of Gillows of Lancaster.and were known as ‘curricle’ chairs .
