Early C19th George IV period carved rosewood glazed bookcase or pier cabinet of bold design.
Impressive and imposing carved rosewood cabinet , fitted with a single arched-top glazed door enclosing 3 shelves with spaced carved sphere decoration to their leading edges , the outside base of the cabinet door with corresponding applied spherical decoration .
The uprights of the sides having large heavily carved corbels of architectural form , below carved blocks and a deeply carved frieze band housing a concealed frieze drawer .
Further carved scrolls to the base of the door stiles , the stepped-out platform base raised on carved lions’ paw feet with carved claw details . The rear with turned simulated rosewood feet .
In excellent original condition with a rich colour and patina to the figured rosewood. The door fitted a working lock brass with key , and retaining its original glass .
A high quality cabinet of powerful ,striking design ,and of practical scale and proportions.
