C19th Italian bronze �Grand Tour� souvenir reduction, after the antique, of �The Medici Vase� .
Well-cast bronze reduction of the iconic ancient marble krater vase , known as the �Medici Vase�. The campana-shaped body cast in relief with classical figures ,the top rim with ovolo or �egg-and-dart� detail, raised on a fluted socle onto a square base ,and having twin loop handles with mask-head terminals .
Fitted with a removable inner gilt-metal liner.
In excellent original condition with a rich , consistent patina and colour..
The monumental marble original was sculpted in Athens in the 1st century AD , as a garden ornament for the Roman market, and is now exhibited in the Uffizi Gallery Museum, Florence, Italy .
