Large-scale decorative early C19th Regency period carved gilt-wood pier mirror .
The architectural form break-front multi-stepped pediment with cross-ribbon and multiple sphere decoration above a band of carved ‘lambs-tongue’ moulding. A rectangular ‘trumeau’ panel of punched or pounced ground , with raised foliate or oak-leaf decoration and a large central regal lion’s-mask head.
The sides having solomonic twisted architectural column supports topped with corinthian style capitals . The original silvered mirror plate with atmospheric degradation and foxing, having an ebonised slip surround.
The whole mounted on ebonised ball feet. The verso with original panel back-boards .
In excellent original condition, the original gilded surface having achieved a mellow, soft patina .
