Fine late C19th ‘Japanese Imari’ style 5-piece porcelain ‘garniture de cheminee’ of early C18th design by Samson of Paris .
In the late C17th / early C18th Genroku era , Edo period style , comprising a set a 3 baluster tapering ovoid vases with dome-top covers and a pair of ‘beaker’ or sleeve vases of flared form . The domed lids each surmounted with a mythical guardian lion-dog or Komainu .
Richly decorated in the traditional Imari palette of the Arita kilns , with vivid colbalt blues , iron-reds and white with gilded highlights . The vases all with free-flowing cartouches and vignettes of floral designs with chrysanthemum and peony blooms, the necks of the lidded vases with butterfly or moth motifs .
The French ceramics firm of ‘Edme Samson et Cie’ was founded in Paris in 1845, and produced high quality copies of rare and important Japanese , Chinese and European porcelain wares to supply the demand amongst collectors for examples of fine china and porcelain .
Highly decorative and impressive garniture of five vases with fine quality painting and decoration .
