Mid C19th Indian painted and varnished table-top casket on stand .
Inspired by lacquer-work from the Far East and produced in Bareilly , India . Decorated entirely with a design featuring Chinese-style landscapes with pagodas , figures and willow trees.
The rectangular lidded casket on a loose stand of scrolling form all with corresponding decoration . The interior of the lid with original vivid paintwork and retaining a partial paper retail label . A lift-out mahogany interior tray with multiple divided sections concealing a void below .
In good original ‘as found’ countryhouse condition with only minor wear and losses to the painted surface .
Probably produced as a stationary or jewellery box .
Large floor-standing trunks-on-stand of this type were also produced , but this being a rarely seen miniature example .
