Elegant early C19th Regency period carved mahogany framed double scroll-ended sofa.
The shapely carved frame with a shaped raised back with a fan-style central motif with reeded details and paterae , the carved scroll classical lyre-inspired arms with corresponding paterae terminals . The whole frame with carved details , channeled reserves and ‘split-bobbin’ style decoration.
The front seat rail with a central rectangular block of stylised leaf carving , the whole raised on tapering carved and reeded legs all fitted with their original high-quality cast brass decorative cup castors and wheels.
In excellent original ‘country-house’ fresh-to-market condition with a strong and sturdy frame , with no breaks or repairs . The mahogany frame having achieved a mellow colour and patina , with a desirable ‘dry’ surface . The serviceable old upholstery covering in need of refurbishment to client’s taste of fabric. Retains it’s original horse-hair stuffed loose seat squab and roll cushions .
A finely-drawn sofa of broad scale and proportions , having great presence and flamboyant high Regency style.
