Early C19th Regency period brass-mounted mahogany cellarette or wine-cooler of classical sarcophagus form with a noble armorial.
Figured and flamed mahogany cellarette raised on exaggerated carved leaf-wrapped lion’s paw feet with original concealed brass castors beneath , having a stepped lid with a central acanthus-leaf carved oblong block. The ovoid panelled front bearing a large cast brass noble or heraldic device to the centre, featuring a seated stag-hound , his raised paw upon an antlered stag’s head , above a baronial bar .
The panelled ends both with well-defined cast brass lion’s mask ring handles . The brass hinged lid fitted with a brass restraining chain , revealing a capacious polished interior capable of holding a dozen or more bottles of wine and spirits.
Fitted with the original brass lock and key .
In excellent original condition with a rich colour and patina to the well-selected grade of mahogany.
A practical and decorative cellarette of good scale and proportions.
