Mid C19th Irish carved mahogany ‘Gainsborough’ library armchair in the mid C18th George II period style.
Elegant broad-seated carved mahogany armchair raised on shapely cabriole legs with shell-carved knees , onto carved trefoil pad feet . The shell carved carved rear cabriole legs having an exaggerated swept rake . The back having a serpentine top rail.
Outswept arms with leaf-carved detail to the supports, carved detail to the armrests and carved terminals , the base of the arm support having a carved shell motif detail .
A well-executed copy of an important mid C18th George II period armchair, constructed in a superior grade of selected Cuban mahogany which has achieved a rich period style colour and patina.
In strong , sound condition with no damage, breaks or repairs. Has been stripped to base cover really for re-covering in client’s own choice of fabric.
