Late C19th Italian ‘Grand Tour’ souvenir bronze reduction after the antique, of the “Discobolus”.
Well-cast bronze study of the iconic Greek sculpture of the Discus Thrower or “Discobolus” . The original sculpture by Myron was completed at the start of the Classical period in around 450 BC . It depicts the naked Greek athlete throwing a discus , the Greek original being lost but is known by various Roman copies both in marble and bronze .
In excellent original condition with a good patina and colour to the surface. Raised on its original verde antico marble base.
