C19th oil-on-canvas painting of Italian landscape scene by Penry Williams . Scene in the Campagna ,Rome , looking towards the Alban Hills with the Claudian Aquaduct running across the hinter land. The foreground with genre scene of goat-herder and a shelter ,together with a woman in traditional dress playing with a child. Signed and dated "Penry Williams ROME 1850" lower left. The reverse with label attached "No1/Scene in the Campagna of Rome looking toward the Alban mount, the Claudian Aquaduct etc/ the property of Viscount Canning by Penry Williams" .
Penry Williams (British ,1798-1885) was a Welsh-born artist who painted and lived in Rome from the 1820s, where he painted typical Roman and Italian scenes in the traditional style. The picture has been professionally cleaned and lined in the last 20 years. In original carved gilt-wood and gesso frame with gilded slip.
A picture of similar size,subject matter and composition by the artist is held in the collection of The National Museum of Wales , Cardiff. Dated 1862. (See www.bbc.co.uk/your paintings) The Victoria Art Gallery in Bath also has a comparable example.

C19th parquetry/marquetry-inlaid New Zealand tripod table . Made in the style and manner of the reknowned New Zealand émigré Bohemian cabinet-maker Anton Seuffert. Stunning marquetry-top circular occasional table inlaid with specimen indigenous/native New Zealand timbers. Geometric 'star-on-star' design inlaid top , raised on a distinctive turned baluster stem with 3 carved cabriole-type legs and base-finial. Brass 'banjo-type' catch to tilt-action top, and figured timber block. Although not labelled by Seuffert , this table bears strong resemblance to the style and craftsman-ship of Australasia's most celebrated colonial cabinet-maker. In excellent original condition . C19th pastel portrait drawing of aristocratic woman in large gilt-wood and gesso surround frame .Subtlely coloured drawing in grey and blue tones , a well-executed half-length art-work of a lady in C18th style grey silk costume with powdered wig . Drawn in pastels on paper , mounted upon canvas and behind glass (apologies for reflections). In the style of, and by a follower of, John Russell of Guildford (1745-1806).Wonderful serene depiction of this beautiful and enigmatic lady of aristocratic bearing drawn in subdued colours and showing great attention to detail. Good original condition throughout. Gilding on frame is original and has achieved a very nice aged warmth. H. 40" x W . 35" . England c 1820.

C19th plaster library bust of 'Cincinnatus'
C19th plaster library bust of 'Cincinnatus' . With a finish to simulate bronze , a smart classical library bust on integral socle base.. Inscribed to rear "Cincinnatus 1853". Lucius Quinctius Cincinnatus (519BC - 430BC) was a Roman aristocrat, statesman and consul who was regarded as a hero of early Rome. This study is strongly reminiscent of the bust portion of the Imperial Roman marble copy of the Greek bronze original statue known as "Hermes Fastening his Sandal"(also "Jason....") now in Louvre, Paris which has been open to interpretation by classical sculpture scholars. Some minor rubbing to finish , but no chips or damage to features. H 15" .England 1853.

C19th Portuguese Brazilian rosewood miniature side table in C17th style. Heavily turned base with 'solomonic' turnings and stretchers onto flattened bun feet. Fitted cushion-moulded single drawer with embossed brass handle and ripple-moulding, below gadrooned edge figured rosewood top.
Great rich colour and patina. Free-standing design .

C19th Regency period mahogany 'bergere' library armchair. Elegant neo-classical 'Grecian' influenced library chair with cane-work bergere back and seat in perfect order. Based on a classical ancient Greek design 'Klismos' chair, popularised by the drawings of the artefacts and architecture of the ancient classical civilisations by the likes of Charles Heathcote-Tatham and the designs of Thomas Hope and Thomas King. A wonderful quality mahogany frame with swept open arms and carved motif detail and reeded channel carving, standing on turned legs. Rich colour timber with original polish and patina. Shaped swept arms with scroll supports, standing on reeded front legs. The 'wing' shaped top-rail back and severe line of the arms ,being an Eygptian-revival influenced design reminiscent of Thomas Hope's drawings of the period. C19th Regency period mahogany double scroll-end settee. Crisply carved ,rich mahogany frame of compact proportions on sabre legs with original brass castors with wooden wheels. Stylish classically-referenced design with paterae and tablets on back and frieze, lyre ends and carved detail.
Cleaned, waxed and re-upholstered in our own work-shops in taupe silk.
Deep-buttoned loose double-sided squab cushion and heavily pleated bolster cushions, all with double-piped edges.

Probably conceived as a sheet music cabinet but a very useful piece of furniture, would work as small bookcase or display cabinet .Has one fixed shelf, stands on turned legs with original brass castors and has rope-twist ring carrying handles to the sides. C19th Regency period mahogany fold-over tea-table. Great timber and patina , all original , cleaned and waxed . Swivel action fold-over top with polished interior. Standing on four hipped and moulded sabre-type legs with brass lions-paw claw cap castors, turned centre column. The frieze has a flame-veneered centre classical tablet with ebony and box-wood stringing . Solid mahogany top has very slight shrinkage 'smile'/gap to front edge , but it does little to detract from the overall colour and quality of the table. A fantastic grade of timber and colour. A practical and adaptable table . W 36" x D 18" x H 29". England c. 1820

C19th Regency period mahogany 'metamorphic' writing table. Rare form of mahogany centre/writing or library table with folding hinged top concealing writing compartment. The interior fitted with an adjustable folding ratcheted writing/reading slope, lidded compartments and a moving candle-stand/slide. A hidden gilded-brass catch on the base of the top releases the folding-top mechanism , whilst the lock and key secure it. Inlaid all over with ebony stringing and inlay ,of free-standing design, standing on 'standard-end' supports with shaped sabre legs, joined by a high turned stretcher and shaped bracket supports. Fitted with brass square box-toe castors. All in original untouched /'fresh to the market' condition. H 30" x W 36" x D 23" . England c.1810
