Panelled-top desk with detachable carved and pierced galleried 'super-structure' back with an arrangement of pigeon-holes,cupboard and drawers. Two-drawer frieze front with carved and pierced apron, the whole raised on shaped cabriole-type legs.( x 2 keys ) The chair with panelled seat , cross-stretcher support ,swept arms , twin splat-back and shaped outline seat. Excellent quality Chinese rosewood/hongmu timber , with a rich consistent colour in mint condition. Shaped stretchers , and all-over auspicious symbolic 'bamboo' carving representing longevity, strength and simplicity in Chinese culture,whilst the prunus or peach blossom ,symbolise health and well-being. Late C19th Japanese bronze study of an elephant and two attacking tigers. Meiji period (1868-1912) bronze group by Genryusai Seiya of fantastic quality depicting an Asian bull-elephant being attacked by two tigers. The trumpeting elephant is shown stamping on one attacker ,whilst the other tiger clambers onto his back. Superb quality casting and two-colour patinated detail , which shows both the aged and wrinkled skin texture of the elephant and the stripes of the tigers. The under belly of the elephant bearing the seal tablet reserve with signature 'Seiya Saku'. On original carved hardwood loose base . The elephant fitted with carved ivory or bone tusks .

C19th Indian carved teak hexagonal centre table . Wonderfully carved six-sided table of imposing scale .Densely carved top and frame ,with alternating pattern of intricate 'pinjra', or 'bird-cage' work panels to the sides. Floral carving to the top and frame together with bands of flower-head carving. Leaf-carved and turned legs with bulbous carved feet.Incorporates typical Indian architectural design elements such as the 'Jali ' or 'Pinjra' open-work ,though probably made for the European market in demand from such retailers as Tiffany or Libertys for the fashionable 'Orientalist' style. Quality timber and in mint condition. Made in Northern India , probably Simla or Kashmir. H 28 "x Dia.(Edge to edge)25 ". India c 1890.

The inset panelled tops framed with slightly curved/rounded ends , carved and shaped friezes , raised on square section legs united with 'stepped' and shaped stretchers and carved 'key' detail feet.

Pair of late C18th/early C19th Japanese Imari porcelain vases and covers
Pair of late C18th /early C19th Japanese Imari porcelain vases and covers. Good pair of highly decorative Japanese vases with domed lid covers and gilded Shishi/Lion-dog surmount finials. The typical Imari pattern palette of underglaze strong 'inky' cobalt blue and iron-red enamels with gilt highlights. The bodies with all-around design featuring cockerels, mythical Phoenix birds ,bamboo and floral motifs consisting of peonies and chrysanthemums.
Initially imported during the late C17th and early C18th by the Dutch East India Company in response to the demand from Europe for these wares, inspired and influenced by the interior designs of the likes of Daniel Marot and his contemporaries.
Impressive pair of vases to bring the exoticism and allure of the Orient to a traditional period or contemporary interior . Esteemed and valuable imports of the period , this type of porcelain can be found in the fine houses and palaces of Europe displayed on cabinets and fire-surrounds, often used within empty fire-places for decoration during the summer months.
In excellent original condition, with only one small chip to underside of each vase cover.
One surmount finial has evidence of old re-attachment.

Useful and practical pair of rectangular top 'huali' tables with panelled tiers standing on square-section legs with scroll-carved feet. The friezes all carved with scroll "endless -knot" type decoration. Simple classic design would complement a period room-setting or add a stylish exotic, oriental flourish to an interior. Good strong condition , though some colour variances due to sun-light exposure and marks to surfaces commensurate with age and use.

Finely carved 'hongmu' framed stand with all-over prunus decoration with auspicious birds amongst the branches, being symbolic of good fortune and happiness. Standing upon a shaped foot with pierced spandrels within the central frame and projecting from the corners of the base. The gong of good aged patination with wrought finish . Complete with leather-covered hammer/beater ,which produces a tone of strong resonance.

Impressive Imari charger of large scale . Decorated with a deep blue and white mountainous landscape scene , brightly coloured chrysanthemums and flowers to the foreground .The reverse with blue-and-white trailing floral and trellis decorated borders. Of deep-dished form with a foot-rim and the interior with a double-ring marking together with kiln-spur marks in the glaze .

Pair of large C19th Japanese red lacquer decorated carved wooden figures. Striking and decorative large-scale pair of figures , depicting a male Oni or demon figure ,together with a female figure ,probably Kannon ,Buddhist Goddess of Mercy , carrying a basket. The carved wooden bodies decorated in deep scarlet lacquer with parcel-gilt highlights .

Excellent carved detail to both figures , both shown wearing matching flowing traditional robes with key-pattern decoration to the edges and gilt-heightened flower and cloud design .

Wear to gilt and surface commensurate with age and use , minor wear to edges of robes .

Both of free-standing form ,and raised on well-carved realistically modelled feet.

Pair of early C20th/late C19th Japanese cloisonné enamel vases.
Pair or early C20th/ late C19th Japanese cloisonné enamel vases. Meiji period (1868-1912) vases of exceptional quality and arresting colour-ways. The pale pink ground bodies 'fading out' , decorated with vividly coloured poppies.

Probably by the Ando Cloisonné Company of Nagoya , Japan, decorated using the 'Musen-shippo' technique created in 1879, producing an enamel-ware without wires which allows the artist to compose fluid designs.

Some evidence of historic restoration.
