C18th Chinese huanghuali rectangular low ‘Kang’ table of earlier Ming period design.
Uncomplicated and sophisticated design Chinese Qing period low Kang table raised on square-section supports with subtly carved hoof feet. The well-figured waisted top with an inset ‘floating panel’ with a mitred corner frame and cleated peg construction.
The edges of the shaped frieze frame of the table with gently-moulded or beaded edges . The underside with a central lateral stretcher support , with shadow marks from two lacking bars .
Superb quality well-chosen, dense grade of timber .
In excellent original condition with a rich original colour ,patina and surface .Minor shrinkage crack to the panelled top , minor aged-related crack to frame above one leg .
Provenance: private collection of an Oxfordshire countryhouse.
