Late C19th salt-glaze pottery sculpture of a lion .
Well-modelled pottery lion after the Sir Edwin Landseer original sculpted for the base of Nelson’s Column in Trafalgar Square , London . Good detail to the head, mane and body , the front paws displaying sharp claws or talons .
Produced and stamped by “Chadwick Parker & Co . Totley , Sheffield “ . The majestic male guardian lion is depicted in a lying , alert and vigilante pose .
Salt-glazed fired pottery with a rich deep brown hue , resembling patinated bronze . In good original condition with some minor historic damage to an area of one front paw and to the tail .
Highly decorative and evocative sculpture which would be suitable for an interior or exterior scheme .
