Description

Early C19th George IV period mahogany kneehole writing table in the manner of Gillows of Lancaster and London .
Superb quality 5- drawer mahogany kneehole table fitted with a three-quarter gallery upstand and raised on carved fluted and tapering supports. Fitted with original lacquered brass socket castors and wheels .
The drawers with moulded edge surrounds , all fitted with original turned wooden knob pull handles, brass locks and patent-type circular brass escutcheons ( key lacking). The mahogany-lined drawers all fitted with quartered ‘dust-beads’ to the sides .
The finely-figured high-grade mahogany rectangular top with cross-grained moulded-edge surround .
Of free-standing form , having been veneered and polished on the reverse . The ends of panelled construction.
The design and quality of both timber and construction lead to the probable attribution to the esteemed cabinet-making firm of Gillows of Lancaster and London, though unsigned or stamped .
In excellent original condition throughout , with a rich colour and patina to the original polished surface .
A practical scale writing table providing both useful storage and a good working area to accommodate modern office needs .
