Description

Mid C19th Victorian period burr walnut pedestal writing desk .
Highly-figured Circassian burr walnut 3-part pedestal desk fitted nine mahogany lined drawers with original knob pull handles . Raised on plinth bases with concealed castors beneath for ease of movement.
The gently rounded corner top with a moulded profile edge , fitted with a replacement black leather writing surface which has been fitted to replicate the worn original. The leather has blind-tooled worked edges and a subtle gilt line within the border .
The drawers fitted all original escutcheons, working brass locks and supplied with steel keys . The pedestals with rounded corners to the front profiles .
Of free-standing form with the reverse veneered in figured walnut . The burr Circassian walnut (Juglans Regia) originating in Eastern Europe and Asia , displays the strong characteristics of tight burr grain and dark figuring and is favoured by cabinet-makers for it’s quality.
In excellent original condition throughout with highly-figured well-selected burr walnut veneers , which have achieved a rich colour and patination.
Constructed in the traditional 3-part manner which aids movement and transportation.
