Description

Late C19th Japanese Meiji period porcelain charger decorated in the Imari palette.
Large-scale Japanese porcelain charger decorated in typical Imari palette colours of colbalt blues , iron-reds , and white with gilt highlights.
The striking central panel decorated with a ferocious mythical dragon creature emerging from clouds, together with intricately decorated circular ‘mons‘.
The edges of the dish decorated with alternating circular and oblong vignettes of floral landscape and bird panels , and geometric designs.
The reverse edge sparsely decorated and painted in dark blue with sprigs of tree branches or blossom , around a central shallow foot-ring with an internal blue ring.
In excellent original condition with no breaks, damage, chips , repairs or rubbing. Fitted with an easily-removable old wall-hanging display wire .
