Description

Early C19th Regency period brass-inlaid rosewood fold-over card or gaming table .
Figured rosewood d-shaped fold-over card with brass-inlaid decoration and baize lined interior . Raised on brass-line strung quadruple sabre-type legs from a central rectangular concave-sided base , supporting a gently tapering and shaped pedestal or pillar with a band of carved and moulded decoration to it’s base . The feet terminating with original brass claw design box-castors and wheels.
The frieze with a central rectangular tablet inlaid with elaborate cut-brass decoration, the front and sides with brass-line stringing and conforming cut-brass motifs .
The d-form fold-over top with cut-brass ‘fleur de lys’ type motifs and scrolls to the corners and corresponding brass-line inlay. The fold-over top action fitted with original gilded brass hinges , swivelling to reveal a void or storage aperture below . Both of the interior surfaces lined with green baize felt fabric, probably the original cloth .
In excellent original condition, with good original polish and colour . Richly-figured rosewood which has achieved a rich and consistent patination.
