Late C19th Japanese Meiji period porcelain charger decorated in the Imari palette.
Large-scale Japanese porcelain charger decorated in in typical Imari palette colours of colbalt blues , iron-reds , orange and white with gilt highlights. The central panel with a coiled dragon design, surrounded by alternating circular vignettes and fan-shaped reserves of parading geishas and bijins, together with floral and landscape designs. interspersed with geometric patterns .
The reverse edge painted with abstract leaf or cloud decoration in pale blue , shallow foot-ring with a blue painted inner ring line , the centre showing evidence of ‘kiln-spurs’ in the glaze from the firing process .
In excellent original condition with no breaks, damage , chips , repairs or rubbing. Fitted with an easily-removable old wall-hanging display wire .
