Description

C19th William IV period carved rosewood window seat or bench attributed to a design by.Rudolph Ackermann .
Stylish carved rosewood seat with impressive carved vase-shaped ends above a tablet reserve, of Greco-Romano inspiration . Raised on tapering turned and reeded forelegs and plain turned rear legs, all fitted with brass cup castors and wheels. The front lateral bar of moulded and carved profile .
The bench is attributed to a design in the works of Rudolph Ackermann “Repository of Arts” published in 1821. Conceived in the fashionable Greco-Romano style of the period , popularised by other leading furniture designers such as George Smith .
The crisply-carved and shapely ends to the front of the seat are echoed in outline to the reverse , those being of uncarved rosewood , whilst the reeded forelegs are repeated in outline to the back in plain form .
A highly decorative window seat or bench in excellent strong and original condition. The rosewood frame has a deep, rich original patina and colour. Has been cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
Would work equally well as a window seat , hall bench or bedroom seat .
Has recent clean upholstery and padded loose squab cushion in piped-edge sage green silk fabric.
