Late C19th life-size bronze bust study of the 'Venus Italica’ after Antonio Canova .
Interesting large bronze sculpture depicting the head and shoulders of the full-length classical sculpture of the statue , known as the 'Venus Italica ' sculpted by Antonio Canova in 1810 .
The goddess is depicted with her head turned to sinister or left , with her hair tied in a ribbon .
Good detailed casting with a consistent rich , dark patination displaying green hues to some areas.
An impressive scale neo-classical bronze sculpture with great decorative presence.
Conceived as a replacement statue for the ‘Venus de Medici’ appropriated by Napoleon’s forces and taken to France , Canova’s full-length marble original is housed in the Palazzo Pitti , Florence ,Italy .
