Description

Late C18th George III period brass-bound mahogany plate-bucket.
Good Georgian period staved-construction mahogany country-house plate-bucket with triple brass coopering-rings and hooped brass handle with a flattened hand-grip to the top and decorative shaped 'anchor' terminals where it joins the bucket. The body with a typical shaped and scooped slot to one side for ease of safe packing and removal of the plates.
These buckets were a staple requirement and necessity in the large country houses and homes of the nobility in the late C18th, in order to transport quantities of heavy silver or porcelain plates from the kitchens or butler's pantry located below stairs ,to the dining , banqueting or state rooms , to where distance was a issue .
In good original, as found condition ,with a rich ,dark patina to the mahogany, some minor marks and scratches commensurate with age , use and purpose . The brass-ware with an aged patina having not been over-cleaned or mechanically polished.
Minor shrinkage gaps between some of the vertical staves.
