Description

C19th Italian bronze 'Grand Tour' souvenir architectural reduction model of "The Temple of Hercules Victor".
Well-cast and detailed model of the ancient Roman colonnaded temple dedicated to Hercules in the Piazza Boccaccio Della Verita , Rome . The Corinthian capped fluted columns supporting the tiled and pitched roof . The centre of the bronze model with a lift-out centre , having probably been conceived as a pastille burner or desk-top ink-well .
The model being accurately cast showing the remaining 19 columns , one as in life , having been damaged . The columns surrounding a central circular 'cella' .
The temple being the earliest surviving marble building in Rome having been erected 2nd Century BC by L. Mummies Achaicus ,conqueror of the Achaeans and destroyer of Corinth .
Mounted upon an original block base of 'Belgio Nero' black marble.
In excellent original condition, with only minor historic chips to the edge of the marble base.
