Late C18th/ early C19th George III period mahogany sofa table .
Elegant late Georgian period twin-flap mahogany sofa table of free-standing form fitted with 2 frieze drawers and 'dummy ' drawers in verso. Raised on plain 'standard' end supports with reeded and shaped legs fitted with patinated brass box-toe castors and wheels. The ends united by an elegant shaped flat stretcher of simple classic form .
The cock-beaded , oak-lined and dove-tailed drawers all fitted with old replacement brass knob pulls (in original holes) . Fitted with original brass escutcheons and locks ( no key) . The twin-flap ends each supported on a shaped hinged support when raised . No warps or distortion, completely flat when open or closed.
The whole with elegant reeded decoration to the edges .
A sophisticated and elegant sofa table of restrained design . In original 'country-house' condition with some stains, marks and historic minor scratches to the top . Minor historic repairs to supports.
Retaining its original surface and polish , which has achieved a pleasing mellow patination.
