Late C19th/early C20th Chinese Qing Dynasty carved hardwood low 'kang' or opium table of scrolled-end form .
High quality figured 'hongmu' timber which has achieved a glowing patination and colour. The scroll-over ends with open frames , the sides with heavily carved and pierced friezes with fruit and vine leaf detail . The panelled top of striking grain and colour .
Unusually the bases of the ends with a heavy solid turned bar running laterally which gives the table added weight and stability.
