Mid C19th Victorian period papier-mâché tip-top occasional table in the manner of Jennens & Bettridge.
Decorative circular topped tip table with gilt and inset nacre shell , or 'mother of pearl ' , details.
The top with gilt rococo style and floral decoration together with applied and inset shell butterflies and moths . The tapered swollen column support with conforming decoration onto a dished circular shaped base with scroll feet .
The top fitted beneath with original brass hinges and an unusually designed gilded brass catch and release.
In excellent original condition, the top with a pleasant subtle aged crackulature to the surface . Some rubbing to the gilded decoration to the stem and base as to be expected, commensurate with age and use .
The top of a completely flat profile with no warping or distortion.
Smart decorative occasional table to add glamour to an interior scheme.
Probably produced by the Birmingham and latterly London-based firm of Jennens & Bettridge , a company renowned for the production of such high quality papier-mâché wares and items of small furniture during this period.
