Large late C19th Chinese carved hardwood figure group.
Superbly detailed carved hardwood group with a central sage or Shou-Xing God of longevity and old-age figure and boy surmounted and surrounded with auspicious symbols . The tall sage or god figure carrying a laden staff and a symbolic peach bough signifying immortality, held across his body . The boy grasping him , proffering an auspicious bat in his hands , a symbol of good fortune . To the side stands a crane , symbolising longevity, whilst to the base are symbolic pines , whose qualities of durability and hardiness are held in high esteem in Chinese culture.
All the elements symbolising good luck , good fortune , longevity , fortitude and good health .
The figures with carved-bone eye and teeth detail.
Excellent rich colour, patina and colour.
