Description

Fine quality early C19th mahogany library bookcase/ cabinet of elegant and compact proportions .
Unusually compact scale 4-door bookcase with glazed top section and panelled-door cupboards beneath . The top with original velvet lining , fitted with adjustable shelves , brass door bolts , brass locks and original keys . The gently arched glazed-top panel doors above figured mahogany rounded-corner panel doors below . The cornice of stepped and flared architecturally-inspired form , the whole raised on a plinth base.
Of practical compact scale , with excellent to-scale proportions . Unusual build-design whereby the whole bookcase can be disassembled into 7 sections for ease of movement and to facilitate transport .
Exceptional quality bookcase throughout , with all original fittings , having been manufactured by highly-skilled cabinet-makers using a superior grade of mahogany . Has all the quality hall-marks of having been made by a leading London workshop of the era, though unsigned or stamped.
Excellent original colour , polish and patina. Has had rear base of lower sides cut and shaped to fit to a skirting board .
