Description

Late C18th George III period mahogany wine table or kettle-stand , probably Irish.
Interesting late C18th table of diminutive proportions , unusual design and form .The circular single-piece dished top with raised ring-moulded rim , supported upon a tripod base by shaped uprights , the lower part of the base terminating in scroll legs with 'zoomorphic' lion's paw feet. The triple upright supports with a moulded profile to the leading edge which follows down through the leg and onto the foot ,contributing to the overall elegance and sophistication of the table .
The lower part of the base united by a central carved and dished circular patera or disc , whilst each of the 'knees' of the legs have applied turned paterae to their sides. Well-carved paw feet with carved claw detail to the front edge .
The unusual design and form of the table, together with the powerful carved animal feet , strongly point to the table being of Irish origin .
Good rich original colour and patina . The top with some stains and marks commensurate with age, use and purpose .
Cleaned and waxed.
