Description

Late C18th/early C19th George III period cast-iron strong-box.
Rare surviving example of a cast-iron strong-box from the late Georgian period with 2 original keys (one as spare) in good operating condition .
Fitted with a 3-lever/bolt action lock and fitted with an original brass knob to the lid .
Designed to store valuables and documents ,in order to protect from theft and fire .
Decorated to all 4 sides and lid with "beaded" panels and star-type corner motifs . Single-piece heavy-gauge lid with twin hinges, and centrally-positioned key escutcheon
The inside being plain and finished in its original 'red-wash'/ pink-painted finish . The base with stepped plinth .
Very heavy and well-constructed strong-box in excellent condition with original steel-grey finish .
Lacks brass hasp / lock cover.
Probably made by Coalbrookdale but not marked.
