Description

Early C19th Regency period mahogany writing / library table of wide ,exaggerated 'kidney' form. Unusual free-standing mahogany and leather-lined writing table of dramatic scale kidney design with partially ebonised/bronzed shaped concave stretcher with central tablet feature .Fitted with its original "Greek Key" 'blind'-tooled Moroccan leather top , which though worn heavily in places, has been conserved and preserved, and shows a nice mellow red hue. Standing on inverted or 'umbrella' shaped supports fitted with original box castors and wheels, the end supports of plain 'standard' form. The cross-banded top with a reeded edge , and conforming reeded detail to legs and frame . The shallow frieze with no drawers. An exceptionally rare form of table with great elegance and presence.
Original finish and condition with minor historic repairs to the legs and stabilised crack to the writing surface.
Has been sympathetically restored ,waxed and conserved in our workshops, and is in ready-to-use , "Country-house" condition.
