Description

Late C19th French gilt-wood and gesso-framed oval mirror of good large scale . Elegant bow-crested frame with intertwined wavy ribbon edge and interlaced cresting to the base. Well-defined detailed decoration throughout with foliate-carved scones (lacking candle-knozzles).The inner edge with carved 'lambs-tongue' decoration ,together with split-pearl detail to the outer, the 'ribbons' decorated with flower-heads.
The frame has benefited from expensive re-gilding some 25 years ago , and is presented in "ready-to-hang" condition .The gilding is bright and crisp ,and has a warm glow and patina. The original mercury-silvered oval plate of a good sparkly ,grey hue with some atmospheric small areas of 'foxing'.
Original panelled back-board. A great decorative statement of impressive design and proportions.
