Description

C19th plaster library bust of 'Cincinnatus' . With a finish to simulate bronze , a smart classical library bust on integral socle base.. Inscribed to rear "Cincinnatus 1853". Lucius Quinctius Cincinnatus (519BC - 430BC) was a Roman aristocrat, statesman and consul who was regarded as a hero of early Rome. This study is strongly reminiscent of the bust portion of the Imperial Roman marble copy of the Greek bronze original statue known as "Hermes Fastening his Sandal"(also "Jason....") now in Louvre, Paris which has been open to interpretation by classical sculpture scholars. Some minor rubbing to finish , but no chips or damage to features. H 15" .England 1853.
